10. Istanbul, Turkey
This is the home of the famous Hagia Sophia, a site not to be missed when in the Middle East. This building was constructed in the early 6th century A.D. as a church. It later became a mosque, and is now a museum. It is also a near-perfect example of Byzantine architecture.
Other must-see attractions in Istanbul include the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art, the Obelisk of Theodosius (nearly 3,500 years old), and the Byzantine Hippodrome (where horse racing took place in ancient times).
9. Giza, Egypt
You can’t go to the Arab world without visiting the Giza. It is the location of the famed Giza Plateau, which is the home of the last remaining of the 7 wonders of the ancient world….the Great Pyramid.
Of course, there is more than one pyramid here, and the Sphinx is here, as well. Riding up to the architectural wonders on camel-back is recommended, as you can really get a grasp of just how huge these structures are by approaching them this way.
